The Three Heads

I’m not a Japanese Anime fan and used to think Anime was just cartoons made for kids, but after I watched my first Japanese Anime “Grave of the Fireflies”, which made me cry, I realized many Japanese animations are actually created for adults and are typically very evocative cartoons that make you think…especially animations that are created/directed by Hayao Miyazaki. “Spirited Away” is a remarkable Hayao Miyazaki animation I have watched and found absolutely amazing.

No need to mention the fine Japanese animation quality, the thing that amazes me the most in Spirited Away is the creativity of the character design. Here I would like to introduce some characters I really like in the story:

Kamajii is an old man with six arms who runs the boiler room for a bathhouse. His arms can be extended indefinitely to let him access the upper floor from his original position.

Susuwataries are small furry black dust balls who work in the bathhouse with Kamajii. They are timid, shy and always move as a group.

Yubaba is an elderly witch with an extremely large head and nose, who supervises the bathhouse.

Bou is Yubaba’s spoiled son who appears to be a young baby, but he is twice of Yubaba’s size.

The Three Heads are three disembodied heads that act as attendants for Yubaba. They move by bouncing around on the floor and make an odd pong noise.
