A few days ago I discovered an article online featuring a photographer by the name of Jeremy Cowart. In the article, Cowart recalled a photography project he produced while volunteering in Haiti. Cowart explained:

“My 2011 New Year’s resolution was ‘more personal work’. Little did I know it would be with an iPhone. I went on a volunteer trip with Hope International during the 1-year anniversary of the Haiti earthquake. In between shoots for Hope, I randomly started shooting with my iPhone and quickly became interested in the possibilities. I found that the iPhone gave me better access to my surroundings. Sometimes a big DSLR can intimidate people or draw a scene so the idea was to document everything in a subtle, respectful way and the iPhone allowed for just that.”

Not only are his photographs beautiful, but they also illustrate the progression and role technology plays in much of art, design, and current society. It is very interesting to see how far mobile phones have come within the past couple decades. Individuals have the capabilities of recording an event (through photography, video, or sound recordings), editing the recording, and distributing them to there favorite social media sites via their phones.
