Informative Getaways for Graphics Professionals
During my time as a graphics professional, I have been able to mix a little business with pleasure by attending some of the tradeshows and conventions which cater to the computer/motion graphics industry. As we plan our spring and summer vacations, perhaps one of these events can find its way onto your agenda.
The most popular event is SIGGRAPH, which takes place in Vancouver, Canada on 08/7-08/11 this year. SIGGRAPH is highly recommended, as this show presents the latest cutting-edge tools from vendors, plus the latest content being developed by leading studios and production houses.
Another popular event I had the pleasure to attend was the Game Developer’s Conference, which takes place in San Francisco, CA this week on 02/28-03/04. Even though this event focuses on the videogame industry, there is much to see that would appeal to graphics professionals. In addition, many of the toolsets used for game creation are used in 3D and motion graphics.
We can’t forget about NAB (National Association of Broadcasters), which takes place near the spectacular Las Vegas strip on 04/09-04/11 this year. This show caters to the broadcast network and film industry, and is particularly informative for motion graphics artists. Again, since there is such an overlap in animation and video production toolsets, there should be much to appreciate at these conferences by most computer artists.
